GIMMER LAMBS
The second sale of gimmer lambs saw 1000 forward which was a huge success at J36 with all vendors leaving with a big smile on their faces.
Starting off the day were Mule gimmer lambs with a lovely pen of 15 from James Taylor Kendal selling to £135 with other Mule lambs selling to £128 from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans. A run of well grown gimmers from FI & ME Little, Kendal sold to £120 with others from the same good home to £116. Well grown lambs fit to tup regularly selling to either side of £110, with smart running lambs selling well over the £100 mark.
A special entry of LLeyn Mules from P Knowles, New Hutton created much interest with a top of £148, with other pens from this home selling to £140. Continental gimmer lambs created a massive interest from all buyers with a top of £162 for Texel gimmer lambs from S & G Mellor, Staffordshire with others selling to £152 from A Strong, Penrith. Texel gimmer lambs regularly selling between the £120 - £130 mark.

STORE LAMBS
The fortnightly sale of store lambs at NWA J36 saw 4728 forward with all classes and types selling to a sharp and competitive trade, with buyers in attendance from as far afield as Devon, West Wales, Scotland alongside the regular, strong North West support.
Today’s sale peaked at £108.50 for a pen of Texel lambs at JG & BJ Escolme, Killington with other Continental lambs selling to £100.50 for Charollais x from JE Wightman, Lupton. Well bred, three quarter and pure Continental lambs regularly selling at £88 - £95 and topping at £96 for Beltex x lambs from AE Atkinson, Endmoor and £93.50 from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans.
First cross lambs sold to £92 for Suffolk x from PG Thornton, Scorton and £91 from JG & BJ Escolme, Killington with Texel x selling to £96 from JT & A Armitstead, Selside.
Medium keep, cross bred lambs were generally selling at £68 – £76 depending upon quality and size.
A large entry of hill bred lambs today saw Mules sell to £88.50 from E & MA Procter & Son, Kirkby Stephen with other Mules at £86 from JA & CA Gibson, Selside and a pen of 100 from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans selling at £84. Mashams sold to £85.50 from W & J Penny, Kirkby in Furness with Cheviots also achieving £85.60 from NP & CE Buckley, Staveley. Herdwick lambs sold to £69 from JW Hodgson, Little Langdale with Rough Fells to £68 from AJ & CM Harrison, Kentmere and Swaledales £59.50 from KD & L Armer, Kirkby Stephen.
Buyers keen to secure pens of level and evenly drawn lambs with several large lots at today's sale attracting keen buyer interest to include a ringful of 165 Mules from E & MA Procter & Son achieving £78.50 with this price also achieved for a pen of 143 Mules from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans. 120 Texel x lambs from MW & MR Black, Staveley achieved £85 with other pens of lambs ranging from £50 – £75 keenly bid for with buyers in attendance keen to secure numbers.
All lambs forward today averaged £76.25 with strong buyer interest already expressed for the next sale on Thursday 21st October to include the Ambleside Show for Pens of f20 Mules, 20 Suffolk and Continentals and 20 Horned/Herdwick and Cheviot lambs. Vendors are strongly encouraged to enter their lambs with confidence.
